There are many places offering what they call compost these days, but in reality it how do you know you are getting actual compost instead of partially broken down manure? Also, how do you know the product you are putting in your garden is free of herbicides that not only can kill your plants this season, but also for seasons to come? That is where we come in.
At Quick Pony Farms we are committed to providing you the highest quality products possible. We are providing you the same exact compost we use for our personal growing needs. We put our passion first, not our profits. We come from generations of gardeners and farmers, and we take pride in that.
At Quick Pony Farms, our story begins with deep roots in north Texas, where our family has been farming and gardening for generations. Those generations instilled in us a strong work ethic, a respect for the land, and a belief that healthy soil is the foundation of everything we grow.
What began as a simple composting hobby eventually grew into something much more. The idea to turn that hobby into a business came from our youngest son, who has been part of Quick Pony Farms since day one. Now at sixteen years old, he remains actively involved in every aspect of the operation—from bringing in compost materials and operating farm equipment to planting gardens and crops, as well as repairing and maintaining our equipment.
Today, Quick Pony Farms remains proudly family-owned and family-operated. Every batch of compost we produce reflects the values that have been passed down through generations: hard work, integrity, stewardship of the land, and a commitment to helping our customers grow healthier gardens, landscapes, and farms.
For us, compost is more than a product—It is a passion. Composting is our way of caring for the soil and continuing a family tradition that we hope will benefit generations to come.
The Process
All raw material we bring in gets sorted and stacked for aging. While stacking we water to ensure consistent moisture throughout the entire pile. We also test for herbicide during this step.
After the aging process is complete we start windrows. The rows are again watered. After a week of the rows being created we start logging conditions such as temperature, moisture, oxygen levels, and other factors.. Row turning is determined by these conditions. Once the row is ready we water while turning the rows, = and the process is repeated until the compost is completely cured and safe for use. We also test once again for herbicide before we allow any batch to go out. We don’t take chances with “good enough. Quality is something we take seriously.
The final steps are screening and blending. This step is done as orders come in to ensure a fresh, premium quality product.
