Our Roots
Many products are sold as compost, but how can you know whether you are getting fully finished compost or partially broken-down manure? You also need confidence that the material going into your garden has been carefully tested for persistent herbicides that could harm plants now and in future growing seasons. That is where Quick Pony Farms is different.
We provide our customers with the same carefully produced compost we use for our own growing needs. Every batch is properly processed, tested, and screened with quality and safety in mind. We come from generations of gardeners and farmers, and we put our passion for healthy soil ahead of simply making a sale.
At Quick Pony Farms, our story begins with deep roots in North Texas, where our family has been farming and gardening for generations. Those generations instilled in us a strong work ethic, a respect for the land, and a belief that healthy soil is the foundation of everything we grow.
What began as a simple composting hobby eventually grew into something much more. The idea to turn that hobby into a business came from our youngest son, who has been part of Quick Pony Farms since day one. Now at sixteen years old, he remains actively involved in every aspect of the operation—from bringing in compost materials and operating farm equipment to planting gardens and crops, as well as repairing and maintaining our equipment.
Today, Quick Pony Farms remains proudly family-owned and family-operated. Every batch of compost we produce reflects the values that have been passed down through generations: hard work, integrity, stewardship of the land, and a commitment to helping our customers grow healthier gardens, landscapes, and farms.
For us, compost is more than a product—it is a passion. Composting is our way of caring for the soil and continuing a family tradition that we hope will benefit generations to come.
The Process
All raw materials brought to our facility are carefully sorted and stacked for aging. During this stage, we add water as needed to maintain consistent moisture throughout each pile. We also test the material for persistent herbicides before it moves forward in our process.
After aging, the material is formed into windrows and watered again. We monitor temperature, moisture, oxygen levels, and other conditions to determine when each row should be turned. Water is added during turning when needed, and this process continues until the compost is fully cured and safe for use. Before any batch is released, we test it again for persistent herbicides. We do not take chances with “good enough”—quality is something we take seriously.
The final steps are screening and blending. We complete these steps as orders come in so our customers receive a fresh, premium-quality product.
